Abraham Lincoln Mask at The Henry Ford

It's pretty weird to see Lincoln's death mask, but it is there at the Henry Ford in Dearborn and since today is his birthday, February 12, 1809, we thought we'd add that bit of trivia. When you think about it, they do have some pretty macabre stuff at The Henry: his death mask, the chair in which he sat when he got shot, the car Kennedy was assassinated in.  It makes for an interesting tour of the museum!

Happy Presidents' Day

In honor or Abraham Lincoln's 202nd birthday this month and President's Day today, we've chosen this singular statue of him called "On the Circuit" at Northwood University by sculptor Anna H. Huntington. Midland has been home to Northwood since 1961, but they have campuses in Texas and Florida as well as a joint partnership with Hotel Institute Montreux in Switzerland. It is Michigan's well-known business school.

Abe Lincoln "Let man be free"

Just a stone's throw from Woodward and Campus Martius is this handsome statue of Abe originally casted in 1895 by the artist Alfonso Pelzer. It had been so terribly vandalized twice, that a replica was made in the 1990's. It stands behind the gorgeous Skillman branch of the Detroit Library on Library St at Gratiot. This lovely building houses the nation's most exhaustive collection of automobile memorabilia up on the second floor. Over the main door just under the roofline it proclaims: "A fountain of wisdom flows through books". Doreen and Suzie say Amen to that!
