Armada Free Public Library

The Armada Free Public Library celebrated its centennial some years ago in this town of less than 2000 people and it was great to see it open this past Saturday, as many libraries have closed for the weekend.  The historic library, originally funded by Andrew Carnegie, honored Dr Seuss on his birthday, March 2 with an all-day party.  If you are in the area, the Celtic Cross Band is performing here on Wednesday, March 14th.

The DIA's Inside/Out

Curiouser and curiouser we become when the art in our museum suddenly appears in our communities. We found this reproduction of François Millet's Reading the Story of Oenome on a shed at Eastern Market. This year the DTE Energy Foundation has helped fund the Inside/Outside project put on by the DIA. There are 80 pieces of art in Detroit and surrounding communities like Holly, Milford, Macomb, Warren, Franklin, Birmingham, Armada, Lake Orion, Oxford and Belleville. The DIA encourages viewers to post photos of the reproductions on their Flickr group and to geocache with the art. Each community that participates gets a free day at the museum. How many have you seen? You have until the end of November enjoy the current crop, but new ones will be installed in April.

The Lamb's Tail Antiques in Armada-Romeo

One of metro Detroit's top antique spots is situated half way between Romeo and Armada: The Lamb's Tail. So visible from Armada-Ridge Rd with intriguing yard art, it just begs to be explored. Bonnie and Terry have been selling from their historical barn for 18 years. Their little consortium of artists and pickers keep the place stocked. The whole area comes out for The Lamb's Tail's festive Harvest Day September 25th. Ummmm....yes, Suzie walked out with a few charming pieces! We voted for them here through Click On Detroit.

138th Annual Armada Fair Aug 16-22

Armada's adorable little country fair lasts a full week and it is a perverbial blast. Here's where you get loaded up on elephant ears, corn dogs, cotton candy and fresh squeezed lemonade. Everyone enjoys demolition derbies and the tractor/truck/horse draft pulls. There are bands, a beer tent, and carnival rides --but most of all don't we love the animals and 4-H displays! Lower left are the bantam millefleurs that won first prize. The kids were singing karaoke at the Rascal Flatts trailer. Tomorrow is the last day.
