St Ladislaus in Hamtramck

With dawn just breaking, we caught the silhouette of St Ladislaus in Hamtramck. In the heart of "Little Poland", they still have a service on Sunday mornings at 11am in Polish. The church was built in 1953. It's high school closed in the 1980's when the population began to decline. Szczęść Boże.

Polonia Restaurant in Hamtramck

If we are anywhere near Hamtramck, the potato latkes call to us.  You can get the authentic homemade kind at Polonia Restaurant where they are served with a squeeze bottle of sour cream! Of course all your other Polish favorites are available here also, like dill or blood soup, stuffed cabbage, pierogies and smalec ze skwareczkami. They know what they are doing and it's been oozing old world charm since the 1920's. Anothony Bourdain filmed a great segment of his No Reservations here. Viva Polonia!

Legs Inn at Cross Village

This weekend Doreen and I participated in a Smart car rally up north that was a whole lot of fun. We met some very interesting people from all over our state and shared a fabulous lunch at this unique Legs Inn in Cross Village. It is a little tiny town not too far from Mackinac Bridge, on the west side of the state. The restaurant overlooks Lake Michigan and the food is outstanding....we indulged in their Polish specialties: pierogies and kiszka. Why do they call it Legs In? Because of all the little antique stove legs on the roof top!
