Marley's Bar & Grill in Manistique

Manistique is a UP town on Lake Michigan where we squeezed in a visit to Marley's Bar and Grill. Famous for their onion rings, homemade sandwiches and soups, they also boil their hamburgers! We confirm that the vittles, which are served in pie pans, are delicious. This is a unique place that is well over 100 years old and open seven days a week.

Manistique's Red Lighthouse and Pier

The Manistique River empties into Lake Michigan here in the UP. Long ago, the logging industry would use the river for transporting all the cut trees. The lighthouse dates back to 1916, which means it's approaching its centennial anniversary! If the weather is nice, like it was on this morning, you can hike out the pier to this majestic light and watch the seagulls hovering overhead. Pretty awesome.

Seul Choix Point Light, Gulliver

The Seul Choix Point Light, built in 1895, stands in the Upper Peninsula in Gulliver where there is a harbor of refuge. Seul Choix was named by the French and translates to "Only Choice" as it is the only areas where boats can take refuge along this part of Lake Michigan. The tower is 79 feet tall with a cool 10 sided cast iron lantern. Many people say it is haunted! Strange happenings have been reported including silverware that moves, the strong smell of cigars and the sound of someone climbing the lighthouse steps. Some believe a lighthouse keeper is still at work.
