Traverse City is a treasure trove of little discoveries one of which is
the Mission Point Lighthouse situated 17 miles north of the city on Old Mission
Point. Built in 1870, it is still possible to climb the skinny little steps to
the top and be rewarded with a delightful view. Decommissioned in 1933,
the township purchased it and it has been maintained by caretakers and
volunteers. Painted white with black trim, this iconic symbol is surrounded by
Lighthouse Park with its many hiking trails.
