Spinning Alpaca Wool

Monica was helping out at Fall Family Days which was taking place at the Thumb Octagon Barn Agricultural Museum when she was offered the chance to learn how to spin wool. She caught on quickly and became a demonstrator!  Right outside the barn were a couple a beautiful alpacas from a local farm.  We purchased a pair of socks made from the wool. They are supposed to keep your feet especially warm.   There are numerous alpaca farms to visit in Michigan. Go get your own pair of socks or maybe a scarf, a hat or a sweater.

Trickle Creek Alpaca Ranch in Tustin

With a feel of Cashmere yet warmer than sheeps' wool, everyone is getting on the bandwagon for alpaca natural woven winter wear in Michigan.  We found the Trickle Creek Alpaca Ranch goods at the Royal Oak Farmers' Market, but you can also buy their lovely products on line. Check out their hats, socks, scarves, sweaters and gloves. The alpaca ranch is located in Tustin, in between Reed City and Cadillac where owners Terry and Nancy McCreery welcome visitors.
