Home Plate 2013 in Detroit

It was a beautiful thing to see and hear faith testimonies from current and past Tigers this morning at the event called Home Plate.  It began in 1987 and has been held not only at Comerica Park and Tiger Stadium, but other local sports venues as well. Their stories endeared the players to us even more and then they went out and beat Atlanta!

Andrew's on the Corner in Detroit

If you are looking for a shuttle to the Tiger game against the Yankees this afternoon, there is always Andrew's on the Corner in the Warehouse District. A fixture in Detroit run by the Andrews family since the early 1900's, they have a secure parking lot (no charge) and the sports bar food is very good with a selection of burgers and salads, perch and strip steak, as well as homemade soups. There's an upper open deck on top in the back that overlooks Chene Park and the river.

Van Buren County Courthouse in Paw Paw

The village of Paw Paw is the county seat of Van Buren. Their courthouse, dating back to 1901, has been listed on the National Register for Historic Places. The architect from Jackson, Claire Allen, also did Chelsea's famous clock tower. Named for the paw paw trees that were plentiful here, Paw Paw is also the hometown of former Detroit Tiger, Charlie Maxwell, who still resides here. His nickname was Old Paw Paw.

Chelio's Rooftop bar in Detroit

This is a salute to our Detroit Tigers, who gave us so much optimism and boosted the image of our city all year long. It was a great year and a great run. We look forward to opening day, April 5th at Comerica Park. Prior to the game, we enjoy the bird's eye view of the park from Chelio's on Grand Circus Park. They even have bleachers set up on the rooftop to accommodate large groups.

Comerica Park: Where the Tigers are Champs!

The playoff games leading up to the World Series begin tomorrow in NYC and not at our own Comerica Park in Detroit. We will just have to whip the Yankees butts in the Bronx and then return to the Motor City to complete the task. Following the game, fireworks will be set off in the stadium for a visually stimulating and colorful display against the green and waterfall fountain backdrop in the outfield. Look for the tiger sculptures and a huge bat when entering the stadium. Bless you, boys!

The Tiger Club at Comerica Park in Detroit

If you ever get the opportunity, grab the chance to experience the Tiger Club with a humdinger of a view over the ballpark. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is baseball all the way. It's reserved for members (like season ticket holders) and their guests. It is also rented out for private parties at non-game times, which is how we got in and what a memorable trip through Tiger Town we had! Detroit opens in New York this Thursday. Root for our beloved cats!

Tiger Fans at Comerica Park

It's pennant fever time with our Detroit Tigers in first place! Comerica Park is gorgeous especially when you have seats right behind homeplate. Suzie is in the middle, flanked by Spanish teacher coworkers Sara on the left and Laura (who is related to Charlie Gehringer!!) on the right. The Toronto Blue Jays will be in for a four day homestand next weekend. And as Ernie Harwell used to say, "Thank you for sneaking your transistor under the pillow as you grew up loving the Tigers." This beloved Tiger announcer recently announced that he has incurable cancer and has chosen not to undergo surgery. You are in our prayers, dear Ernie.
